ALERT TO KENYANS ON RISING FRAUD IN VEHICLE IMPORTATION FROM JAPAN
This is to kindly inform Kenyans that fraud in the importation of motor vehicles from Japan is apparently once again on the rise. Consequently, the Embassy is overwhelmed by messages from prospective Kenyan importers requesting verification of genuineness of companies/agents exporting vehicles from Japan before entering into transactions.
We also wish to inform that the Japan Used Motor Vehicles Exporters Association (JUMVEA) has also posted a firm caution at http://www.jumvea.or.jp/caution_before.php warning prospective importers to confirm companies/agents they intend to deal with are registered JUMVEA members before any payment is made. This is because JUMVEA is committed to the discipline of its members and it investigates and takes stern action against any of it erring member to ensure justice is done.
The Embassy would like to stress that such cases are considered as civil offences under Japanese law which in essence will require one to engage a legal firm to institute legal proceedings. This notwithstanding, The Embassy has frequently placed alerts on its website warning Kenyans of the increasing fraud and advised prospective importers to deal only with members of the Japan Used Motor Vehicles Exporters Association (JUMVEA).
