Kenya Passports

Pursuant to section 27(1) of the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act 2011 as read with section 12 of the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Regulation 2012, legal notice No. 64, all applicants are required to complete Form 19 (available online) as the Kenya Passport Application Form set out in the first schedule of the Regulations.

Application for e-passport

Apply for a new passport or to replace your old one and pay for it online through mobile money, credit cards, debit cards or online banking. Fill in the form, print it, sign and date it, then add other requisite documents and photographs and present them in person for processing.

Important:

  1. ALL Passport applications MUST be completed
    via: ecitizen.go.ke portal. Manual applications will NOT be accepted.
  2. Please ensure you have read and understood the guidelines and Requirements before submitting your application.
  3. Dual Citizens are required to declare their other nationality prior to renewing Kenya passports. These include persons born before 27th August 1987 and who acquired other citizenship status before 27th August 2010 need to show proof of having regained Kenya citizenship.
  4. Those required to apply to regain Kenya citizenship are expected to await completion of the regaining process.
  5. Use clear passport size photos with all facial features clearly outlined against a white background without shadows in the background. The photo should be decent and not include spectacles. The passport photo size should be 2.5 by 2 inches.
  6. Uploaded documents must be scanned in picture format (.JPEG or .PNG)

Document Checklist

  1. Application form and 2 passport size photos.
  2. 2 copies of e-citizen payment invoice.
  3. Copy of applicant’s national ID card (For person’s aged 18 years and above)
  4. Copy of recommender’s ID or passport.
  5. For new passport applications please avail original and a copy of birth certificate. (Japanese birth certificate and it’s translation if not in English language).
  6. ID or passport copy of parent/s (for new applications)
  7. Copy of Marriage Certificate (where applicable)
  8. For dual citizens, proof of having either regained Kenya Citizenship and or Declared Dual Citizenship.
  9. For replacement of old passports please avail a copy of the passport to be renewed.

Time frame

Once your complete application has been submitted to an Immigration Officer, it should take at least 3 weeks to get your passport. It may take longer if more information is required or if the application is incomplete or hasn’t been filled out correctly.

Requirements

This section covers the following:

  1. NEW PASSPORT OR REPLACEMENT OF PASSPORT

1. NEW PASSPORT OR REPLACEMENT OF PASSPORT

The Following documents are required for application of new passport or replacement of passport:

  1. Applicants MUST appear in person to present his/her application. Please call 03-3723-4006/7 to book an appointment.
  2. Duly completed e-citizen pre-filled passport application form.
  3. 2 copies of E-citizen payment Invoice
  4. Original and a copy of birth certificate. Japanese birth certificate MUST be translated if not in English language (for first time applicants)
  5. Two (2) current passport size photos.
  6. Original National ID Card and one photocopy.
  7. One copy of applicants’ parent/s National ID card or passport.
  8. One photocopy of recommender’s ID card.
  9. Uploaded documents must be in (.JPEG or .PNG) formats.

2. REPLACEMENT OF LOST/STOLEN OR MUTILATED PASSPORT

The following are required for application for replacement of lost/stolen or mutilated passport.

  1. Applicants MUST appear in person to present his/her application. Please call 03-3723-4006/7 to book an appointment.
  2. Duly completed e-citizen pre-filled passport application form.
  3. 2 copies of e-citizen payment invoice.
  4. Original National ID card and a copy.
  5. Copy of lost passport if available (last three pages).
  6. One copy of applicant’s parent/s National ID card or passport.
  7. A sworn affidavit and a police abstract are required
  8. A detailed explanation letter is required to explain the circumstances of the loss or mutilation.
  9. Two (2) Current passport size photos. Uploaded documents must be in (.JPEG or .PNG) formats.

3. PASSPORT FOR A CHILD UNDER 18 YEARS

The following are required for passport application for children (under 18 years)

  1. Applicants MUST appear in person to present his/her application.
    Please call 03-3723-4006/7 to book an appointment.
  2. Duly completed e-citizen pre-filled passport application form
  3. 2 copies of E-citizen payment Invoice
  4. Original and a copy of Kenya birth certificate or original Japanese birth certificate and it’s translation if not in English language.
  5. Duly completed * Parental Consent Form (PDF:37KB)
  6. Two current passport size photos.
  7. One copy of applicant’s parent/s National ID card or passport.
  8. Uploaded documents must be in (.JPEG or .PNG) formats.
