IMPLEMENTATION OF THE REGISTARTION OF CITIZENS RESIDING OUTSIDE KENYA AND THE PROGRESSIVE REALIZATION OF THEIR RIGHT TO VOTE

The Embassy wishes to inform that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has made a number of policy decisions in order to put in place the legal, administrative and institutional framework for the realization of the political rights of Kenyan Citizens living abroad including the following:

a) Kenyans residing abroad will be registered to vote and will vote at Kenyan Embassies, High Commissions and consulates;
b) During the first election in March 2012, Diaspora Kenyans will only vote at the Presidential elections and national referenda. If any;
c) Some Officers at Embassies, High Commissions and consulates will be appointed by the IEBC as polling and registration officials;
d) Eligible voters will need to be registered with the Kenyan Mission in the country of Residence, hold a valid Kenyan Passport and meet the requirements of article 83 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010,including:


To facilitate this exercise, all Kenyan nationals residing in Japan who may wish to vote during the next Presidential elections; are kindly requested to register as voters with the Embassy at the earliest opportunity. It is noted that eligibility to vote will be based STRICTLY on the voter's register as compiled by the Embassy.
