KENYA LOSES A GREAT ENVIRONMENTALIST OF ALL TIME

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the untimely death of Prof. Wangari Maathai on Sunday, September 25, 2011 at the age of 71 years.

Prof. Maathai, the Nobel Peace Laureate 2004, will be best remembered for her tireless and relentless efforts to fight environmental degradation and poverty in Kenya and other parts of the world. The late Prof. Maathai was indeed a source of inspiration and pride for many in Africa and indeed the entire world.

His Excellency the President Mwai Kibaki has declared Thursday September, 29th and Friday September 30th 2011 as days of national mourning in honour of the late Nobel Laureate. During the two days the national flag will fly at half mast.

The president also announced that Prof. Wangari Maathai will be accorded a State Funeral.

A book of Condolence has been opened for signature at the Embassy premises from today September 27th between 14.00 hrs – 16.00 hrs. and 28th to 29th September,2011 in the mornings between 10.00 hrs – 12.00 hrs. and in the afternoons between 14.00 hrs – 16.00 hrs.
