KENYA PARTICIPATES AT THE 16TH BAZAAR BY THE LADIES’ FRIENDSHIP ASSOCIATION FOR AFRICA AND MIDDLE EAST - “NIHON CHUKINTO AFRICA FUJINKAI”

As in previous years, the Kenya Embassy participated in the “Nihon Chukinto Africa Fujinkai” Charity Bazaar which was held at Royal Park Hotel, Tokyo on 28th November, 2011. The Embassy had a food booth and an art craft booth to introduce Kenyan Cuisine and unique art crafts to the Japanese community and other visitors to the Bazaar. At the food booth, visitors were served with the Kenyan chicken and vegetable samosas, vegetable Pilau and chicken stew, fish cutlet and Mahamuri.

In the Art craft booth, the Kenyan exhibits on offer included Kenyan key holders, earrings, necklaces, belts, batiks and Kenyan tea.

Both Kenyan booths attracted throngs of visitors who really seemed to enjoy the delicious Kenyan foods on offer at the Bazaar. They also showed keen interest as they took away the unique Kenyan artistic items and traditional crafts. The proceeds from the Bazaar will this year be donated to the victims of the Greatest East Japan Earthquake as well as various disadvantaged groups of women and children in Africa and the Middle East.

“Nihon Chukinto Africa Fujinkai” was established in 1981. Its membership comprises of more than 100 ladies who have lived in countries in Middle East and Africa. The Association promotes friendship, bilateral relations and mutual understanding between Japan and countries in Middle East and Africa with various activities. The Bazaar has been held in every other year since 1981. This year marked its 16th edition.

Visitors enjoy various Kenyan dishes on offer during the Bazaar.
