KATERVA AWARDS CEREMONY FOR INNOVATION IN SUSTAINABILITY

Sanergy, a company operating in Kenya was the winner of the 2011 Katerva Grand Prize Award for Innovation in Sustainability. The Award Ceremony was held at the United Nations University in Tokyo on 7th March, 2012 from 3:30 pm. The Katerva awards represent the pinnacle of recognition for global sustainability excellence. Through them, sustainable ideas and initiatives that survive a rigorous review process spanning the full year are recognized, highlighted and accelerated toward impact at a global level.

Sanergy Company was chosen for not only creating a network of safe and affordable sustainable sanitation centers in urban slams but also for providing profitable products through its conversion of human waste into fuel and fertilizer for businesses.

On his congratulatory remarks to the company for being the winner of the 2011 Katerva Grand Prize Award, H.E. the Ambassador underscored the imperative of innovation for sustainability as exemplified by the Katerva initiatives, saying that innovation must suit the needs of the people and must be environmentally friendly and sustainable with manageable and affordable operation.
