Nairobi, the "Green City in the Sun"

The City Council of Nairobi (CCN) on Tuesday the 24th April, 2012, become the first urban centre in East and Central Africa to receive an International Organization for standardization (ISO) 9001:2008 certificate from Data Quality Services (DQS).

Speaking during the award giving ceremony at charter hall, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Local Government Hon. Musalia Mudavadi hailed the council for rising above political squabbles that had previously bedeviled the institution.

However, the minister was quick to note that there still exist many challenges that need to be addressed among them recovery of public assets, streamlining the security systems and providing access to clean water.

The Town Clerk, Mr. Philip Kisia termed the certification a milestone towards an efficient system that will see the council restore public confidence. He said among the changes implemented that led to the certification include auditing of books of accounts, debt management, human resource review, E-payment and improvement in governance.

Mr. Kisia was grateful, that the city hall has undergone tough auditing by price water house coopers and expressed optimism that CCN will regain public confidence which was lost.

The council is planning to build a training organization, which its employees will benefit from, by helping them to develop professional abilities, personal growth and team work abilities.
