Ambassador Amina Mohamed, Kenya's candidate for the post of WTO Director-General, concludes official visit to Japan

Amb. Amina Mohamed Meeting with Hon. Masaaki Taira; Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry; Member of the House of Representatives.

Amb. Amina Mohammed has departed Tokyo for Nairobi following a two day official visit to Japan. During her visit, Amb. Amina held cordial discussions with various senior officials in the Government of Japan regarding her Candidature to the position of Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO). Amb. Amina took time to explain to her hosts that if appointed Director General, she would work to re-energize and strengthen the ongoing multilateral negotiations within the WTO aimed to secure a consensus on the priority areas of the World body.

In this regard, Amb. Amina held useful consultations with the Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Minoru Kiuchi, the Vice-Minister in the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Hon. Masaaki Taira as well as a senator in the House of Councilors, Dr. Kuniko Inoguchi.

She noted that she is confident that as a long serving diplomat in the Multilateral environment including the WTO, she would leverage her experience as a team player and a consensus builder to promote a spirit of trust in the WTO as this is needed to achieve the necessary compromise to move forward the ongoing negotiations and promote recovery, growth and development.
