AMBASSADOR VISITS HAKODATE CITY IN HOKKAIDO PREFECTURE

H.E. Amb. Benson H. O. Ogutu was in Hakodate city in Hokkaido prefecture for three days (6th – 8th April, 2013) official visit at the invitation of Mr. Kenetsurou Kawamura, President of Kikyo Educational Institution. During the visit, the Ambassador graced the Kikyo Kindergarten opening and welcoming ceremony for the new students on 7th April, 2013. He congratulated the children for their first day in school and wished them all the best as they began their academic journey. Over hundred children joined the Kindergarten in an elaborate ceremony that was also attended by the parents of the children.

In the meeting with President Kawamura and teachers of Kikyo Kindergarten, discussions focused on the possibility of establishing an exchange programme between Kikyo Kindergartens and Nursery schools in Kenya. President Kawamura showed keen interest in the programme, saying that he was aiming at the education that exceeds the boundary of the nation and culture. The Ambassador also underscored the importance of the programme, which, if realized, would nurture children for future relations between Japan and Kenya.

On 8th April, 2013, H.E. the Ambassador paid a courtesy call on Mr. Toshiki Kudoh, Mayor of Hakodate city. Among the issues discussed in the meeting were possibility of establishing sister cities relations and the participation of Kenya's athletes in the Hakodate full marathon scheduled for 2015. The Ambassador also briefed the Mayor on the upcoming TICAD V Conference slated for June 1 – 3, 2013 in Yokohama city.

During the visit, the Ambassador also met with Mr. Christopher Mulanda, a Kenyan student at Hokkaido University Hakodate Campus.
