STUDY TOUR BY THE NATIONAL DEFENCE COLLEGE – KENYA (NDC) DELEGATION

A delegation of fifteen (14) participants from the National Defence College – Kenya (NDC) visited Japan for a study tour from 21st – 27th April, 2013. The delegation, which was led by the NDC Deputy Commandant, Major General B. Y. Haji, comprised of senior military officers, civil servants and their counterparts from Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and South Africa, who were expected to undertake higher responsibilities in strategic direction and management of security and other related areas of public policy. The aim of the study tour was to examine, at first hand and from a strategic perspective, the prevailing situation and future prospects in regard to security, stability and prosperity of Japan.

During their study tour, the delegation held meetings with the following Government Ministries in Tokyo: Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ministry of Defence and its National Defence Institute; and Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. The Delegation also visited Toshiba Science Museum, Panasonic Center, and the Ground Self Defence Force Information Center. They also visited Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum as well as Toyota Factory in Nagoya city. The meetings and excursions afforded opportunities for the delegation to learn various aspects of prosperity of Japan.

H.E. Mr. Benson H.O. Ogutu, Ambassador, hosted a welcome reception for the delegation at the Residence on 22nd April, 2013. The reception was attended by Their Excellencies' the Ambassadors from Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania and Charge D'affaires of the Embassy of Uganda and a representative of the Embassy of South Africa.
The Ambassadors thanked the delegation for choosing Japan for their study tour.
