OFFICIAL OPENING CEREMONY OF HONORARY CONSULATE OF THE REPUBLIC OF KENYA IN CHUBU REGION

The official opening ceremony of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Kenya in Chubu region, Japan was held in Nagoya city on 21st November, 2013. The event was graced by Kenya's Ambassador to Japan, H.E. Benson Ogutu and attended by approximately 115 guests, including Excellencies and members of Africa Diplomatic Corps, Japanese government's representatives, Honorary Consuls from the region, local leaders of Chubu regions, among others.

In his key note speech, the Ambassador congratulated Mr. Jun Karube, President of Toyota Tsusho Corporation on his appointment as the very first Honorary Consul of the Republic of Kenya in Japan. He said that the appointment of Mr. Karube was of immense significance as it reflected Kenya's desire to enhance its bilateral relations with Japan, particularly in the economic and commercial spheres. During his tenure as President of Toyota Tsusho Corporation (TTC), Mr. Karube has shaped and implemented the company's joint strategy for Africa under its Global 2020 Vision. The Company has greatly expanded its operations in Kenya, making Nairobi the regional headquarters of Toyota in Eastern Africa.

On his part, Mr. Karube thanked the Government of Kenya for the appointment saying that he would use the position to promote further the already existing broad and deep relations between the two countries. He highlighted various activities of TTC in Kenya and assured to work closely with the Government of Kenya in achieving Vision 2030, Kenya's development blue-print. The event was also addressed by Amb. Yoshifumi Okamura, Director-General, African Affairs Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan.
