SECOND BATCH OF MASTERS DEGREE AND INTERNSHIP PROGRAM OF AFRICAN BUSINESS EDUCATION (ABE) INITIATIVE FOR YOUTH

H.E. Ambassador S.K. Maina with ABE Initiative Students at the Welcome Reception on 2nd September, 2015 in Tokyo

On 2nd September, 2015, H.E. the Ambassador attended a welcome reception hosted by JICA for the 2nd batch of the ABE Initiative Students at the JICA Tokyo International Centre.

The ABE Initiative is a strategic four-year plan launched in June 2013 by Prime Minister Shinzo ABE during the TICAD V Summit in Yokohama. The programme is aimed at providing 1,000 African youth with opportunities to study Masters' courses at Japanese universities and experience internships at Japanese enterprises in pursuit to spurring business growth in Africa.

This year's programme admitted a total of 329 students from 37 countries. Kenya alone sent 45 students. In addition to 55 students of last year's batch, Kenyan students are by far the largest group from a single country across Africa under this program.
