VISIT TO TOYAMA AND ISHIKAWA PREFECTURES BY H.E. THE AMBASSADOR

H.E. at the SMEs Seminar Toyama

His Excellency Ambassador S. K. Maina visited the Toyama Prefecture on 26th and 27th January, 2016. He was accompanied by Mr. Julius Kithamba, the First Counsellor at the Embassy. This was on invitation by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to make a presentation on investment opportunities in Kenya to a seminar organized in Toyama City by JICA for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) from the Prefecture. The seminar brought young entrepreneurs from many African countries and was a big step in mobilizing investors from the Prefecture, considering that the private sectors from Japan and Africa will feature prominently in the TICAD VI Summit to be held in Nairobi in August, 2016.

After the Seminar the Ambassador took the opportunity to visit the Kaiho Sangyo Company, which has business interest in Kenya and other parts of the World. The Company specializes in dissembling, in an environmentally clean manner, used vehicles and the recycling and sale of obtaining parts. His Excellency commended the work of the company and requested JICA consider assistance in setting up a similar company in Kenya.

The Ambassador finally made a Courtesy Call on Dr. (Engr.) Tetsuo Asano, President of the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST), Ishikawa Prefecture where he was briefed by the President and Faculty Heads. The Institute, which is highly rated globally for its research quality has a Kenyan PhD student and several other African scholars under Japan's African Business Education (ABE) Initiative. The Ambassador commended the institution for being among the first in the World to adopt an integrated academic foundation. He appreciated the existing collaboration between JAIST and Kenyan Universities, requesting the administration to consider establishing a campus in Kenya to offer the unique studies.
