TICAD VI SUMMIT TO BE HELD IN NAIROBI, KENYA ON 27TH & 28TH AUGUST, 2016

His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta making the announcement of TICAD VI dates in Addis Ababa, in the company of H.E. Dr. Nkosazana Zuma (R), and Hon. Katsuyuki Kawai (L)

On 31st January, 2016 H.E. Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya; H.E. Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC); and Hon. Katsuyuki Kawai, Representative and Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan, jointly announced the dates for the forthcoming TICADVI Summit. The Summit is scheduled to be held on 27th & 28th August, 2016 in Nairobi Kenya. The announcement was made at the African Union (AU) Headquarters on the sideline of the 26th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads and State and Government of the AU in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Since the inception of the TICAD Process in 1993, all its five previous summits have been held in Japan. TICAD VI Summit will therefore mark the very first TICAD to be held outside Japan. The principle of hosting subsequent TICAD Summits on rotational basis between Africa and Japan greatly serves to reaffirm TICAD's principle of African owned Development Initiatives and genuine global partnership upon which the TICAD Process was founded.

Like previous summits, TICAD VI is expected to attract over 6,000 participants from Africa, Japan and various international organizations. Various side events on key thematic areas are expected to be held on the margins of the Summit as well.
