H.E. AMB. S.K. MAINA PAYS COURTESY CALL ON THE PRESIDENT OF JAPAN FIRE FIGHTERS ASSOCIATION

His Excellency Amb. S.K. Maina paid a courtesy call on the President of the Japan Firefighters Association (JFA), Mr. Akimoto on 6th April, 2016. The purpose of the Courtesy Call was to thank Mr. Akimoto for facilitating the donation of four fire engines to the Nairobi County. The four fire engines which will be shipped from the port of Yokohama to Nairobi early May, 2016 are part of a project that will see many more of the equipments donated to Kenya under the Japanese Overseas Development Programme (ODA). Staff from JFA will travel to Nairobi to train their Kenyan counterparts on the technical use of the Fire Engines. The training expenses will also be covered under the ODA. The request for the donation was initiated by the Embassy and supported by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan and the Nairobi County Government. The Embassy has also requested that Japan, through the JFA and related agencies assist to build capacity for Kenya in establishing an efficient disaster response and management systems.

H.E. the Ambassador seized the opportunity to laud the cordial relations existing between Kenya and Japan. He noted that Japan has one of the most efficient fire and other disasters response systems, whose experience could be of significant benefit to Kenya and other African nations.

H.E. the Ambassador hands letter of appreciation to the President of JFA, Mr. Akimoto. Looking on are Mr. J.K. Kithamba, First Counsellor in the Embassy and Messrs. Takei and Sato, senior JFA officials.
