H.E. Mr. Toshitsugu Uesawa (L) and H.E. Mr. S. K. Maina (R) give their remarks during the Ceremony

On 23rd August, 2016, H.E. Amb. S. K. Maina graced the handing over ceremony of four Fire Fighting Engine Trucks by the Government of Japan to the County Government of Nairobi. The Ceremony was presided over by H.E. Amb. Uesawa Toshitsugu, Ambassador, Japanese Embassy to Kenya, who handed over the engines worth Ksh. 160 Million to the Governor of Nairobi County , Dr. Evans Kidero. The Engines were contributed to the County Government by the Japan Fire Firghters Association under the Grant Assistance for Grace Roots Human security Projects implemented by the Government of Japan.

The contribution is the first of its kind to be done by the Japanese Government, owing to the large population in Nairobi, and, the resultant fire disasters that the City has witnessed in the recent past. The contribution will greatly serve to boost the capacity of the county in responding to fire accidents and related disasters. The program also includes technical assistance aimed at improving the expertise of local workers.

Japan is well known for its efficacy in handling natural disasters, and it is hoped that this kind of cooperation will be broadened to other areas of disaster management as well as expanded to other parts of the country.
