Message From H.E. The Ambassador
I am delighted to welcome you to the official website of the Embassy of the Republic of Kenya in Tokyo, Japan. The site has been designed to inform and offer assistance to our clients. It presents useful sectoral information on Kenya regarding trade, investment, tourism, agriculture, and further enables the user to access sector-specific government websites. It is therefore my singular honour to welcome all to browse our official website.
As I welcome you to this site, I wish to also take this opportunity to briefly introduce Kenya. Kenya’s geostrategic location makes it the gateway to Africa’s hinterland. The central positioning of Kenya on the Eastern part of the African continent with a long coastline in the Indian Ocean offers great comparative advantages for investors interested in Kenya and Africa as a whole. Through the Northern economic Corridor, the port of Mombasa provides a gateway to the landlocked economies of Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Eastern DR Congo as well as South Sudan. On the other hand, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport is the Regional Air Transport hub providing Air connectivity to Africa and the rest of the world with daily flights to Europe, Asia and now a Direct flight by KQ to New York, USA.
Kenya has a fully liberalised, largest and most advanced economy in East and Central Africa with one of the fastest growing economies in the continent at 4.9 % in 2017 and projected to rise to 6.2% in 2019. It is ranked 80th in the world and 3rd in East Africa in ease of doing business; it has a range of investment incentives and home for exciting natural tourist attraction sites and wildlife especially the BIG FIVE. The development agenda for the country is well elaborated in the Kenya Vision 2030 with clear investment opportunities.
The Embassy of the Republic of Kenya in Japan was opened in 1979 while the Japanese Embassy in Kenya was opened in 1964. Over the years, Japan and Kenya have enjoyed a very cordial relationship which has continued to grow from strength to strength. Japan has been a key and valued development partner to Kenya. Currently Kenya, enjoys doing business with 104 Japanese companies in different sectors of our economy, 54 of whom have physical presence in the country.
Firmly committed and focused to fulfilling our mandate as well as enhance service delivery to our clients, the embassy engaged the services of a Honorary Consul in Nagoya with Jurisdiction over Chubu region.
We hope you will enjoy browsing through this website.
