Amb. Moi Lemoshira paid courtesy call on Mr. Masato TSUCHIDA, President of Japan Rugby Football Union on 31st January 2025.
The Ambassador conveyed the warm greetings to President Tsuchida from Kenya Rugby Football Union. Amb. Lemoshira congratulated Japan for its contribution to the Rugby sports around the world and the outstanding performance of the Japanese national team.
The two exchanged views on;
1. Kenya-Japan cooperation in the developing of rugby at junior and university levels
2. Support for the training equipment for the Kenya Junior National Team
3. Exchange of tournament participants in Kenya
Amb. Lemoshira particularly requested the President to consider the possibility of Japan participating in the annual Safari Sevens to be held in Nairobi in October 2025. The Japanese team participated in the competition in 2008 and 2009.
The Ambassador also briefed Kenya’s new educational system called Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) for primary and secondary schools which seeks to promote talent including in sports. The Ambassador emphasized the importance of coaching programs and rugby facilities to effectively promote this curriculum, especially in rural areas.
President Tsuchida noted that participation in the Safari Sevens is a good opportunity for Japan's national team and he would once receive the invitation. He also stated that he would positively consider supporting rugby training equipment.
The two offices confirmed that they will work closely to advance Kenya-Japan cooperation through rugby.
