Amb. Moi Lemoshira led a team from the Embassy to visit Yuzato Elementary School under the International Exchange program for Osaka Expo 2025 on Tuesday, 4th February 2025. The program aims to promote mutual understanding between residents of Osaka and EXPO participating countries established by the Cabinet Office of the Government of Japan.
On arrival, the Embassy team which comprised of Mr. Jennifer Njuguna, First Counsellor and Ms. Kanako Sugai, Tourism Assistant were received by Mr. Yayoi Matoba, Principal of Yuzato Elementary School and Mr. Tetsuya Fujiwara, Mayor of Higashi-Sumiyoshi accompanied other school and government officials.
The Ambassador made a presentation on Kenya including its culture, tourism destinations and sports to over 200 students, staff, and parents. The students were enthusiastic about Kenya, its people and music.
The event was also attended by African Music Troupe led by Mr. Kevin Atieno, a Kenyan Diasporan based in Osaka. The group had a preliminary session to practice the Kenyan famous song ‘Jambo Bwana’ with the students in advance. The Embassy joined the students in singing the song.
Later, the Ambassador had a precious moment interacting in Q&A session with the 4th and 5th grade students. He was also invited to view the artwork on Africa by the students which showcased admiration for Africa and its culture.
Mr. Matoba thanked the Ambassador and his team for the visit and noted that the event was very important in encouraging cultural understanding. He said that the school will organize visit to the Kenyan Pavillion during the Osaka Expo. Mayor Fujiwara expressed the gratitude of the local government and extended an invitation for the Ambassador to cooperate in developing ties between Kenya and the region.
