THE EMBASSY HOSTED KENYAN TEAM TO THE TOKYO WORLD ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIP

The Embassy was honored to host the Kenyan team to the Tokyo World Athletics Championship for breakfast at the Chancery. The team of 50 included senior officials of Athletics Kenya, managers, coaches and the glorious conquerors of Tokyo World Athletics Championship. Among the gold medal winners present were double winner Beatrice Chebet (5000M and 10000M), Faith Kipyegon (1500M), Emmanuel Wanyonyi (800M with Championship Record) and Lilian Odura (800M with new Championship Record).

While welcoming the Kenyan Champions, Ambassador Moi Lemoshira expressed the gratitude of the Embassy for the honor to receive the team. He said that it is an obligation that "Kenya Missions extends every support possible to all Kenyans visiting or living abroad and more for those on national duty like the Kenyan athletes." Amb Lemoshira congratulated the team for the impressive performance and praised them for elevating the standing of Kenya as a sporting nation. In his introduction of the Homebased Officers, he briefed on the functions of the Embassy and explained the purpose and requirement for Kenyans abroad to register or notify of their presence in foreign countries.

The Head of Mission invited the athletes to recommend measures to help improve Kenya's Sports Diplomacy. He urged them to take advantage of the lessons they learnt at World Athletics Championship Tokyo to suggest how the government can improve support for better performance. He wished them the very best as they depart back home later today.

Speaking on behalf of Athletics Kenya and the team Mr. Paul Mutwii, thanked the Embassy for all the support given to the team. He said that the role of the Embassy was equally important to the success of Kenya's participation. Mr. Barnabas Korrir Vice President Olympics Kenya and Executive Member of Athletics Kenya reiterated the recognition of the Embassy for the exceptional support to the athletes. Other senior officials who accompanied the team included Mr. Jinaro Kibet, Vice President of Athletics Kenya, Mr. Evans Achoki, Secretary for Sports, Mr. Nicholas Maswai, Head of Athletes' Delegation, Mr. Philip Ngovi, Team Manager and Mr. Julius Kirwa, Senior Coach.
