The Embassy participated in the 10^th Higashikagura BBQ Marathon in Higashikagura, Hokkaido Prefecture invited by Mayor Susumu Yamamoto of the Higashikagura County. Ambassador Lemoshira delivered a word of encouragement to participants at the opening ceremony and took part in the 3km category as a guest runner. A total of 450 participants enjoyed running in the pleasant weather and a fulfilling time.

The fun event seeks to promote self-family wellbeing and community friendship. The BBQ part promotes use of local meat products and celebrates the harvest of new rice.

Kenya established relationship with Higashikagura County as part of the cross-cultural cooperation concept of the OsakaExpo 2025.

The Embassy supported the event by giving prizes of Kenyan tea, coffee and macadamia nuts for winners.

Amb. Lemoshira and Mayor Yamamoto confirmed that two offices will continue to work closely to promote people-to-people exchange through culture and sports even after the close of Osaka EXPO. The Embassy looks forward to partner in hosting the next BBQ marathon on 4th October, 2026.
