The Embassy participated at the 11th Africa Fair held at Tama Zoological Park on 15th and 16th November 2025. The annual event which is co-hosted with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, aims to introduce the natural resources, culture, and tourism of the participating countries in Africa to Japanese people, while sharing the status of wildlife and conservation efforts. In his remarks during the Opening Ceremony Kenya’s Ambassador Moi Lemoshira noted that “the event creates opportunities for many Japanese people to learn about African countries.

He said that “the hosting of the event dedicated to Africa’s culture and tourism will particularly promote new relations between Japanese young people and Africa which is a key component of greater partnership in the years come.”
During the event which was attended by the staff and their families, the Embassy offered visitors tasting of rich aroma and flavor of Kenyan coffee and tea at the booth. In participation the Africa Day, the Embassy further showcased Kenya’s cultural wealth through exhibition of wooden carvings of ‘Big 5’ and Maasai traditional beads and clothing, bringing beauty and color to the event.
The Embassy also held a Photo Exhibition to selected pictures of Kenya’s beautiful culture, landscape, and touristic destination by legendary Japanese photographer the late Michio Hiraiwa. From 1972, Mr. Hiraiwa undertook over 100 visits to the East African region including Kenya.

For his dedication to Kenya covering five decades, Mr. Hiraiwa become the country’s tourism goodwill Ambassador in Japan. The Embassy is privileged to continue the partnership with the daughter Ms. Masayo Hiraiwa who had worked closely with her father to promote Kenya in Japan.
The Kenya Quiz counter was also highly attractive as visitors to learn about Kenya and were awarded prizes such as Kenyan tea and coffee. The Kenyan Diaspora in Japan contributed to the success of the event. Several volunteered to dress in the Lion costume named at the venue as “Simba-san” which captivated children and the elderly alike.
During his interaction with Tokyo Metropolitan Government team lead by Hon. Akira Koiso and Mr. Hirofumi Watabe, Director of Tama Zoological Park, Amb. Lemoshira affirmed that the Embassy “will continue to work closely with the co-organizers to further expand opportunities for people-to-people exchanges and foster a relationship between Japan and Kenya.”
