EMBASSY SUPPORT TO KENYAN ATHLETES AT THE 19TH TOKYO MARATHON 2026

The Embassy of Kenya in Japan, in collaboration with Kenyans residing in Japan, supported Kenyan athletes who participated in the Tokyo Marathon 2026.

The 19th edition of the Marathon was held on Sunday, March 1, 2026, attracting 38,773 runners, including elite athletes and recreational participants from Japan and other countries.

Kenya was strongly represented, with seventeen male and five female athletes competing in the race, supported by thirteen Kenyan pacemakers who helped set the pace for the elite field.

In the women’s race, former world record holder Brigid Kosgei🥇 delivered an outstanding performance, winning the race with a new course record of 2:14:29, marking her second Tokyo Marathon title in four years.

The men crowned was decided over a sprint in the last 200M in which EthiopianTadese Takele defended his 2025 title in 2:03:37, narrowly edging Kenya’s Geoffrey Toritich, who finished second with the same time of 2:03:37. Alexander Mutiso, also from Kenya was third in 2:03:38.

The Tokyo Marathon will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2027, with the next race scheduled for March 7, 2027.
