The Embassy, in collaboration with Meguro City, hosted “The Beats of Kenya and the World of ‘The Lion King’” on Saturday, 19 September 2026, at Meguro Persimmon Hall.

The event featured a live nyatiti performance by Anyango, the world’s first female nyatiti player, showcasing the distinctive sounds of the traditional Western Kenyan instrument.

The program’s main highlight was a screening of 'The Lion King' in Japanese, offering families and audiences of all ages an opportunity to enjoy the film while connecting with the Kenyan cultural heritage associated with its story and music.

A Kenyan cultural booth was also set up at the venue, showcasing cultural items and giving visitors an opportunity to learn more about Kenya. Visitors were also offered Kenyan tea and Kenya-themed stickers.

The event formed part of ongoing efforts by the Embassy to promote Kenyan culture and strengthen people-to-people exchanges between Kenya and Japan, bringing audiences together through music, film and cultural experiences.

The Embassy will continue to promote Kenya’s rich cultural heritage in Japan through initiatives that create opportunities for cultural exchange, engagement and greater appreciation of Kenya among Japanese audiences.
