On 11th October, 2024, Amb. Moi Lemoshira received five officials from the Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) who are attending Tree Breeding Management and Planning on Melia Volkensii training course at the Japan’s Forestry & Forest Products Research Institute (FFPRI) in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. During the interactions, the scientists briefed on JICA’s partnership with Kenya and the prospects of the transfer of technology on breeding and planting of Melia Volkensii in drylands in Kenya. Among key areas of training are forest genetic; forest management using database and GIS; forest survey technology; propagation and dissemination of Sendan; growing seedlings; and bud pruning treatment.
In his remarks during the meeting. Amb. Lemoshira challenged the team to take advantage of their individual and collective experiences in the training and to benchmark on Japan’s successes in the forest conservation in support of the realization of the 15 billion national tree planting project. He further urged the officers to familiarize with JICA’s partnership with Kenya across related areas and promote further collaboration.
The KEFRI officials in the meeting are Mr. Gathirwa Kariuki, Ms. Adhiambo Okul, Ms. Millicent Jepchumba, Ms. Omwega Nyaudi and Ms. Njeri Kariuki. Also in attendance were Amb. Arthur Andambi, Deputy Head of Mission and Ms. Naoko Yagi, Trade Assistant at the Embassy.
