AMB. MOI LEMOSHIRA VISITS IIZAKA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN FUKUSHIMA CITY

Amb. Lemoshira sowed seeds of Acon (Oak) with the students at Iizaka Elementary school

On 11th March, 2026, Amb. Moi Lemoshira visited Fukushima city to attend the 15th Fukushima Memorial Event to Commemorate the Victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake in Prayer for Revitalization. Prior to the event, Amb. Moi Lemoshira visited Iizaka Elementary School to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the visit by the late Prof. Wangari Maathai, the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, in 2006 when she taught the students the spirit of “Mottainai” which means cherish the nature and protect the environment.

During her visit, she planted the Acon (Oak) tree together with the students. The students demonstrated to the Ambassador of the “Mottainai activities” carries out at the school every day. Amb. Lemoshira said in his remarks, “these child-led practical activities are very important and have a power to influence the society and promised to cherish the strong bond existing between Kenya and Japan ”. The students and Amb. Lemoshira sowed seeds harvested from the Acon tree that Prof. Maathai planted. The Ambassador was accompanied by Ms. Jennifer Njuguna, First Counsellor and Ms. Naoko Yagi, Trade Assistant.
